Merseyside takes centre stage

The 216th Merseyside derby takes centre stage on Saturday as Liverpool make the short trip to Goodison Park to play Everton. ESPNSTAR.com has your preview.
These two old foes lock horns once again but this time with more than just local bragging rights at stake. The Toffees currently sit in 11th place in the Barclays Premier League standings but can go above their Merseyside neighbours with a win, while the fifth-placed Reds can strengthen their top four aspirations with victory on Saturday.
After a shock opening day defeat to newly promoted QPR, Everton's David Moyes has seen his side recover to go unbeaten in their last four games in all competitions at Goodison.
Everton also beat Liverpool 2-0 in last season's home encounter between the two team with [...]

The name "Gandhi" is synonymous with peace and non-violence. His epic struggle to bring together the people of India in their search for sovereignty is unparalleled. This great man's wisdom and foresight are compelling. On this page, you will find ten of the most powerful Gandhi quotes.

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

The moment the slave resolves that he will no longer be a slave, his fetters fall. He frees himself and shows the way to others. Freedom and slavery are mental states.

Non-violence is the first article of my faith. It is also the last article of my creed.

In my humble opinion, non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as is cooperation with good.

That would be a good idea.

On being asked what he thought of modern civilization
Hatred can be overcome only by love.

Love never claims, it ever gives; love never suffers, never resents, never revenges itself. Where there is love there is life; hatred leads to destruction.

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

American troops in Afghanistan through the eyes of a French OMLT infantryman

The US often hears echoes of worldwide hostility against the application of its foreign policy, but seldom are they reached by the voices of those who experience first hand how close we are to the USA. In spite of contextual political differences and conflicting interests that generate friction, we do share the same fundamental values [...]

Grp I: Rennes 1-1 Atletico Madrid

A late equaliser from substitute Juanfran earned Atletico Madrid a draw in a hard-fought Europa League clash against Rennes.
The winger levelled the scores in the 87th minute to earn a point for the 2010 UEFA Cup winners after Victor Montano's second-half strike looked to have given Ligue 1 side Rennes the win.
Juanfran's goal also saved Atletico from suffering only their second loss against French opposition in their history, their only previous defeat coming against Lens in the UEFA Cup fourth found in March 2000.
The home side started to dominate early, with Julien Feret forcing a save out of Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with an inswinging free-kick in the 19th minute.

Bhaagon Waali 29th September 2011 Written Episode

Summary :

The evil six build up hopes that Runjhun might sympathize at their condition and come to relieve them of their misery and poverty.
Diamond makes an attempt to show them the right path, but is utterly unsuccessful.
Runjhun is haunted by memories of Babli begging on the streets, and so is Guddu.

Babli is telling everyone that Mittho and Billo had sent her, and told her to approach well-dressed people and beg for money. She did as she was told and even got some coins, which she shows to her parents.

Kalsanwali and Vishnu are angry and devastated and curse Mittho and Billo for doing such a lowly deed. Rajju tries to defend his wife but Vishnu cuts him off and asks how Rajju would feel if it were his daughter MD in Babli's place. He says if Rajju was that much in need of money, he should have himself gone and begged on the streets. He is lamenting about how everyone here is greedy for money and doesn't cares about anything else. He turns to Babli and makes her understand that whatever anyone tells her to do, she should not listen to them from now on.

Vishnu asks her why she was so breathless, to which she replies that when she was begging on the streets, Runjhun and Guddu spotted her and thats why she had to run away from there.

Mittho is already doing some mental calculations. Kalsanwali gets mad after listening to Babli and blasts at her co-sisters for embarassing her daughte [...]

"If I disagree with someone, then someone says, 'Oh, there goes Justice Prosser violating collegiality.'"

Said Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser, resisting taking the "collegiality pledge" proposed by Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson.
The justices voted on the pledge by a show of hands. Six justices raised their hands immediately, but Prosser paused and looked at the ceiling before slowly raising his hand.

Abrahamson, seeing his hesitation, joked that the justices adopted the proposal with six votes "and one additional vote."

Prosser didn't seem amused.

"Is this is in the spirit of what we just adopted?" he asked.
Gotcha! Was that gotcha in in the spirit of what we just adopted?
Abrahamson apologized and said the justices adopted the proposal in seven votes.

Afterward the justices discussed another Abrahamson proposal... to adopt a measure declaring that four justices not be considered a quorum unless their meeting was previously listed on the court calendar. ...

[Justice Annette] Ziegler said she didn't understand where the proposal was coming from...

A brief conversation ensued. As hints of tension became evident, Justice Patience Roggensack asked for and received a 10-minute break. Afterward, she offered only a brief comment.

"I know you've got something in mind. You're sitting there smiling," she told Abrahamson tersely. "I'm not fond of being blindsided and that's what's happening here."

The proposal was tabled without a vote.
The good times roll on at the Wisconsin State Capitol.[...]

Europe Must Now Grasp Its Chance To Turn Off The Doomsday Device -- Jeremy Warner

The G20's 'grand plan' discussed in Washington is far from perfect – but it could buy enough time to defuse the euro crisis.

Benjamin Franklin's famous remark that "we must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately" was much in use among G20 finance ministers last week, meeting in Washington to address the crisis facing the eurozone.

There was always a delicious ambiguity about this observation, which is even more apparent when applied to the travails of the single currency. Franklin could have meant that it is better to act together in pursuit of salvation than to face the noose alone – or simply that, if you're going to die anyway, it's nice to hav [...]

Grp E: Stoke 2-1 Besiktas

Stoke came from behind to claim all three points against Besiktas thanks to Jon Walters' penalty in Thursday's Europa League Group E clash.
The Turkish visitors went ahead in the 14th minute when Roberto Hilbert struck into the far corner having latched on to Ricardo Quaresma's pass, but their lead lasted only a minute, goalkeeper Rustu Recber unable to claim Dean Whitehead's corner and Peter Crouch on hand to bundle the ball over the line.
The two teams, roared on by their equally-vociferous sets of fans, played out an entertaining contest from there, with both hitting the woodwork in the second half.
Walters then settled things in the 78th minute, hammering his spot-kick past Rustu after Crouch had been brought down by Tomas Sivok.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa Movie Review:

After Kalavani, director Sargunam and Vimal have come together for Vaagai Sooda Vaa. A movie with a message, it is set in the 1960s. With seasones campaingners like K Bhagyaraj, Ponvannan and Thambi Ramaiah around, Sargunam has delivered a movie that is good and enjoyable.

Produced by S Muruganandhan and Poorna, the film is different from regular main stream masalas. It talks about educating the poor and under-privileged children, however going not too much preachy.

Set in a remote village near Pudukottai, the movie features Veluthambi (Vimal), son of Annamalai (K Bhagyaraj). His father wants him to take up a government job. To prepare him for it, Annamalai advices his son to go to a village and help educate children working in a bricklin as part of social service.

Things change Velu's life when he reaches the village. He gets attracted by the innocent ways of lives the people lead there. The young children there are forced to work in bricklin and education is deprived to them. Steps in Veluthambi with a mission to educate the young minds.

In the meantime, he comes across Madhi (Iniya) and romance blossoms. And there are protests for his dreams to educate children from local landlord. How all ends well is the crux of the film.

Can China And Japan Peacefully Co-Exist?

The Bleak Future of Sino-Japanese Relations -- Michael Auslin, National Interest

For all the attention paid to America's complex relationship with China, stability and economic growth in Asia depends just as much, if not more, on the fraught relationship between China and Japan. Not only are these countries the world's second- and third- largest economies, they also are major military powers that represent two very different political and social systems. Although increasingly interdependent economically, they oscillate between political engagement and outright competition over influence in Asia, territorial issues and military capabilities. The inability of these two countries to find a balance in their ties shapes Asian politics and economics and also complicates Washington's efforts to find a stable Asian policy. Japan's new government—its sixth in five years—has indicated that it now wants to improve relations with Beijing.

Grp I: Celtic 1-1 Udinese

Almen Abdi's late penalty salvaged a point for under-strength Udinese in their enthralling Europa League Group I clash with Celtic at Parkhead.
The Hoops got off to a perfect start when midfielder Ki Sung-yueng scored from the spot in the third minute after striker Gary Hooper had been fouled by Joel Ekstrand.
The game ebbed and flowed, especially in the second half, and it looked like Neil Lennon's men would see the game out.
However, in the 86th minute Hooper, back defending, gave away a penalty when he clipped Neuton in the box and Abdi sent Lukasz Zaluska the wrong way from the spot.
It was hard luck for Celtic who have one point from two games followin [...]

Tere Mere Phere Hindi Movie Review and Rating:

Shaadi ka laddoo -- jo khaye, woh pachtaaye. Jo na khaaye, woh bhi pachtaaye. Well, that's an age-old adage that crops up every time people discuss marriage. Deepa Sahi's TERE MERE PHERE is a comical take on the contemporary idea of love and marriage. The film looks at two couples -- one married, another unmarried -- and how lots of confusion ensues in their lives, before they 'live happily thereafter'.

Deepa has a humorous way of looking at some of the most serious situations in life and that's what makes this comedy unique. Imagine doing a film for the first time, a comedy film, and a road film that too! She ought to be praised for the effort. Though Deepa has made a sincere effort to tell a story that has its share of fun moments, a number of sequences in the movie seem so far-fetched that they are too difficult to absorb at times and that, frankly, is a downer. The constant war of words between the newly-married couple looks like a farce in an otherwise real-life scenario. Also, the arguments and constant bickering get on your nerves after a point and monotony [...]
